Statement of Intent
My professional aspirations lie within the domain of editorial design. I foresee a shift in the future of editorial design towards greater dynamism, personalization, and inclusivity. This evolution will involve embracing innovative approaches to storytelling and reader engagement across diverse media platforms.
In the context of graphic design, visual storytelling is used in crafting designs intended to communicate a message and elicit emotional responses from the audience (Padilla, 2023). As a practitioner in this field, I perceive myself as a storyteller, aiming to create narrative works that incite emotions and captivate readers with thoughtful storytelling. The foundation of compelling storytelling lies in understanding oneself (Fryer, 2014).
In my approach to design, I emphasize the use of organized layout to create works that facilitate the navigation of content by the audience. Such structured design also serves as leverage for conveying emotion and meaning. A well-executed layout has the potential to achieve compelling outcomes when it is integrated with appropriate typography, imagery, and color (Katharine et al., 2016).
In my exploration of artistic methods, I am inclined towards traditional techniques such as printmaking, impasto technique, and acrylic painting. These mediums offer tangible engagement with the artistic process, allowing for the creation of textures that speak volumes about our world and ourselves (Rooftop, 2023). The subjectivity of art enables it to challenge norms, provoke thoughts, and instigate changes (Transatlantic, 2023).
